PJ Library!

Good morning! I was thrilled and honored when the amazing Erica S. Perl (Chicken Butt!, Dolly Parton’s Billy the Kid Makes it Big, When Life Give You OJ, and 40+ more) told me she nominated me for the PJ Library Retreat Program!! Then, yesterday, learned I was selected to attend the retreat! YAAAYYY!!!

This is such a huge honor and an amazing adventure!

As an adoptive mom, I thought it would be smart to have my son do 23andMe to learn about his ancestry. So, a few years ago, Reed and I did 23andMe with Luc expecting surprises only from Luc’s lineage. A few weeks later, I was stunned to learn I am 50% Ashkenazi Jewish! My father never told me he was 100% Ashkenazi. The same guy who sent me to a Christian school and made me go to church every Sunday.

To be fair, there were culinary clues. I just thought everyone appreciated fine Jewish cuisine.

My father and I had a strained relationship that eventually faded into nothing. Researching my Ashkenazi roots has been filled with complicated feelings.

Recently, I discovered an strong, brave, important Jewish woman about whom I’d like to write a picture book biography. This will be an amazing oppotunity to research and build this book!
